Mitsubishi Motors North America, Inc. (MMNA) announced it will launch a new battery electric vehicle (BEV) in summer 2026 for the U.S. and Canadian markets, developed in collaboration with Nissan and based on the next-generation Nissan LEAF.
The coming vehicle is part of Mitsubishi’s Momentum 2030 business strategy, which pledges to introduce a new or significantly revised vehicle each year from 2026 through 2030.
The BEV will be sold through Mitsubishi dealer partners across both countries, although technical details, pricing and model specifications have not yet been released. The collaboration is part of Mitsubishi’s effort to strengthen its North American presence and electrify its product line alongside plug-in hybrids and internal combustion vehicles.
“Mitsubishi Motors is on an upward trajectory, especially in the United States,” said Mark Chaffin, president and CEO of MMNA. “Today’s announcement is the first of many to come that reinforce our commitment to the U.S. market, to providing the best vehicles we can for our customers, and ensuring a long and healthy future for our company in the U.S. and globally.”
The 2026 BEV initiative follows the recent debut of the 2025 Mitsubishi Outlander SUV, and is one of the first tangible steps toward the company’s four-pronged Momentum 2030 plan, which focuses on electrification, product expansion, retail modernization and network growth.
“Momentum 2030 is more than a business plan, it is a rallying cry for our company,” added Chaffin. “The addition of this new battery-electric vehicle to our lineup will deliver a blend of internal combustion engines, plug-in hybrids and electric vehicles, so that our customers have the choice of technology that best suits their needs.”
More details about the forthcoming BEV, including imagery and official naming, are expected in future announcements.
