Stellantis has selected Antonio Filosa as its new CEO, following a unanimous vote by its Board of Directors, which cited Filosa’s extensive leadership experience in the Americas and his deep institutional knowledge as key factors in the selection.
Filosa, who currently serves as Stellantis’ COO for the Americas and chief quality officer, will assume CEO responsibilities on June 23. He is also expected to unveil his leadership team upon officially taking the helm.
An extraordinary shareholder meeting will be held soon for Filosa’s election to the board as an executive director.
“It is my great honor to be named the CEO of this fantastic company,” said Filosa. “I am grateful to our Executive Chairman John Elkann and to the members of our board for their leadership, particularly in these recent months, and for the confidence they have placed in me to lead our business during this pivotal time for our industry.”
Filosa’s selection comes after a special committee of the Board of the Directors conducted a thorough search process of internal and external candidates.
“Antonio’s deep understanding of our company, including its people who he views as our core strength, and of our industry equip him perfectly for the role of chief executive officer in this next and crucial phase of Stellantis’ development,” said Elkann, who led the special committee.
Filosa will succeed Carlos Tavares, who abruptly resigned in December following disagreements with major shareholders after a profit warning in September.
With more than 25 years in the automotive sector, Filosa has held senior roles across key global markets. As COO of the Americas, where he led major operational reforms, including reducing excess dealership inventory and advancing new vehicle and powertrain initiatives.
Prior to that, as CEO of the Jeep brand, he drove expansion in Europe with the successful launch of the Jeep Avenger. While leading Stellantis in South America, he propelled FIAT to a market-leading position and launched Jeep production in Brazil, turning it into the brand’s top market outside the U.S.
“We unanimously welcome Antonio’s appointment as our new chief executive officer,” said Stellantis Vice Chairman Robert Peugeot. “His track record of successful leadership during his many years with our company speaks for itself.”
“The appointment of Antonio Filosa to lead Stellantis opens a new and important chapter for our company,” said Nicolas Dufourcq, CEO of the Banque Publique d’Investissement (Bpifrance). “At a moment of transformation for the global automotive industry, Antonio Filosa has the knowledge, the experience and the talent to lead Stellantis to new successes.”
