A U.S. Navy veteran and cancer survivor received a fully refurbished vehicle to support her caregiving and medical needs, thanks to a collaboration between the National Auto Body Council (NABC) Recycled Rides program, AAA-The Auto Club Group and Classic Collision of Mooresville, NC.
Shavon Houze, a decorated veteran recently nominated by Veterans Affairs, was presented with a 2022 Hyundai Kona SEL. Houze, who has faced significant personal challenges, including a recent battle with cancer, has been caring for her granddaughter and was in need of reliable transportation to attend medical appointments and meet family obligations.
"Her life story is one of courage and determination," a news release from NABC said, adding that the donation aims to ease her daily challenges.
Classic Collision of Mooresville, an I-CAR Gold Certified facility and one of more than 300 Classic Collision centers in the eastern U.S., fully restored the donated vehicle. The repair center is a frequent contributor to the Recycled Rides initiative, which enlists members of the collision repair industry to refurbish and donate vehicles to individuals and families in need.
AAA-The Auto Club Group, which operates across several states including North Carolina, provided the donated Hyundai Kona.
Since its founding in 2007, the NABC Recycled Rides program has facilitated the donation of more than 3,500 vehicles valued at an estimated $51 million.
