For the first time in nearly seven decades, Ford Motor Company is relocating its headquarters, moving just three miles within Dearborn, MI, to a brand-new, 2.1-million-square-foot facility that will officially open in November.
The new Ford World Headquarters, part of the larger Henry Ford II World Center campus, is designed to consolidate thousands of corporate, engineering, design and technology staff under one roof.
This move also involves decommissioning and ultimately demolishing its now former headquarters, known as the “Glass House,” as the site is prepared to be repurposed.
In a letter sent to Ford employees on Sept. 15 by Executive Chairman Bill Ford and CEO Jim Farley, the new headquarters was called “more than just a new building; it’s a catalyst for innovation and a physical symbol of our Ford+ transformation.”
While most of the facility is expected to be ready this year, a final section won’t be finished until 2027. All employees will vacate the Glass House by mid-2026, with demolition expected to begin in 2027. Ford is working with the City of Dearborn on a plan for the site, and will share details later.
Once complete, the campus will house up to 4,000 people in the new HQ, with 14,000 employees located within a 15-minute walk of the building.
The new facility doubles the size of the current HQ. It emphasizes collaborative spaces: more design studios, wellness and meeting areas, and tech-enabled rooms. The move reflects Ford’s push toward a more software-driven and interconnected product development future.
“This is part of a larger investment in our people and our facilities across the globe,” the letter to employees said. “We are committed to providing employees with world-class workspaces, modern technology, and the best tools to do their life’s best work — from our global offices to our manufacturing floors. Our dealers around the world are likewise investing in their stores and service centers to elevate the customer experience.”
