Autel Now Offers Access to Mercedes-Benz ‘Enhanced’ Gateway-Protected Systems

Autel users can now perform all "ordinary use" diagnostics on select 2021 and newer Mercedes-Benz vehicle models.

Autel announced it has been approved by Mercedes-Benz USA and certified by the Auto Authentication Authority (AutoAuth) to access the enhanced security gateway on select 2021 and newer Mercedes-Benz vehicle models and perform previously restricted operations in the body control module, including ADAS calibrations.

This capability enables Autel users to perform all "ordinary use" diagnostics, including special functions, active tests, data flow analysis and ADAS calibrations, and is available on all Autel tablets in North America with an active subscription and an AutoAuth account.

“Autel's goal is to provide technicians access to the latest critical functions to accurately and efficiently diagnose and repair their customers' vehicles,” said Paul Marshall, director of product development for Autel U.S. “With access to this enhanced gateway, Autel users can now perform additional services, including ADAS calibrations, on the latest Mercedes vehicles.”

Mercedes-Benz started integrating a security gateway module in specific 2021 vehicle modules to protect critical vehicle systems from unauthorized access and cyber-attacks. Before AutoAuth tablet certification, only Mercedes-Benz diagnostic software and tooling could access these systems and perform the needed diagnostics, services, resets and calibrations. Autel is one of the very few aftermarket tablet developers to be approved by Mercedes-Benz USA for this level of vehicle accessibility.

Mercedes-Benz vehicles with security gateway modules include 2021 or newer CLA (174), CLA (178), AMG GT (192), C (206), E (214), S (223), SL (232), CLE (236), GLC (254), EQE (294), EQE (295), EQS (296), and EQS (297).

Mercedes-Benz is the latest automaker authorizing Autel tablets to access SGW-protected systems via AutoAuth. Technicians can also access Nissan and Stellantis (Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep, Ram, Fiat, Alfa Romeo and Maserati) vehicles with an SGW via an AutoAuth-registered Autel tablet.

Tablet users must create an AutoAuth account and select the vehicle brands they wish to access. AutoAuth charges a small annual fee per brand.

Autel negotiated with Volkswagen/Audi Group to add SGW access capability to its diagnostics and service tablets, and earlier this year, Autel added the functionality to its tablets. Users can purchase single VW/Audi VIN/24-hour sessions or unlimited VINs/full-year access plans.
