Less Product, Less Time, Better Results: How 3D® Car Care Delivers True Paint Correction for Body Shops

Less Product, Less Time, Better Results: How 3D® Car Care Delivers True Paint Correction for Body Shops

For collision repair shops, the paint correction step comes at the end of a long and expensive process. It is also where a hidden problem tends to surface: many conventional compounds contain fillers that temporarily mask surface defects rather than remove them. The vehicle looks fine at delivery. A few weeks later, swirl marks reappear, the customer calls back, and the shop absorbs the cost of the relationship.

Unlike many of the products on the market today, 3D® Pro Series line of compounds and polishes contains no fillers, paint defects are physically removed, not covered up, and the results hold.

The difference starts with the abrasive

Many compound makers source their abrasive powders from outside suppliers. 3D takes a different path, calcinating and milling its abrasives in-house at its Santa Clarita, Calif., facility. That control over the raw material is what makes the brand’s proprietary Alpha Ceramic Alumina (ACA) technology possible and consistent. “This level of production control allows us to refine and control our abrasives to ensure that performance exceeds the highest standards in the industry,” said Nathan Iverson, CEO.

The ACA technology is engineered to cut and level paint faster and at lower surface temperatures than conventional compounds. The water-based formula has a long buffing window using less product and works with rotary and orbital polishers across foam, microfiber, and wool pads. Its silicone-free formulas are body-shop safe, fresh-paint safe, and compatible with the full refinish workflow.

What shops actually gain

The filler-free formula directly affects callbacks. While many compounds mask surface defects temporarily, and when fillers wear away, swirl marks return — sometimes within weeks of delivery. Because 3D removes the defect rather than covering it, that cycle stops. According to 3D, the improvement in finished results can translate directly to higher customer satisfaction scores.

The water-based formula also stretches further than traditional compounds. The constant-cut abrasives maintain their cutting ability longer through each buffing cycle, so technicians get more correction per application and use less product overall. Low dust output is part of the same equation, less cleanup between panels means more time spent on the work itself.

Built for the body shop environment

A compound that performs on cured paint is not automatically safe for body shop use. Silicone contamination is a genuine risk in a working refinish environment, and products that are not fresh paint safe can compromise surfaces ahead of coating or interfere with the process downstream. The ACA Pro Series is formulated to eliminate those concerns, silicone-free, fresh paint safe, and designed to work alongside the refinish workflow rather than against it.

The line covers the full correction sequence. The ACA 510 Premium Rubbing Compound handles fast cutting on hard clear coats, removing sanding marks and paint defects while keeping surface temperatures in check. The ACA 520 Finishing Polish follows to remove holograms, fine swirls and shallow scratches, leaving the surface ready for wax, sealant or ceramic coating.
