Roof rail airbag inflators may rupture in 2016–2017 Silverado and Sierra crew cabs
General Motors is recalling 1,559 crew cab Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra pickups, covering 2016–2017 1500s and 2016 2500 and 3500 models, according to the Part 573 report. The roof rail airbag inflators sit above the headliner on each side, and an inflator's sidewall may split or its end cap may separate, propelling the cap or other components into the cab. The recall stems from one rupture in a 2016 Silverado 1500 that damaged the headliner and roof.
Under NHTSA campaign 26V611 (GM N262569920), dealers will replace both roof rail airbag modules with parts built outside the supplier's suspect production window. Owner letters are expected to mail Nov. 9.
Lucid sets SRS inspection and replacement requirements after a collision
Lucid Motors issued a position statement dated Sept. 1 covering supplemental restraint system (SRS) inspection and replacement on the Air and Gravity when collision damage exceeds minor cosmetic panel damage. Inspection starts with a pre-repair scan and extends to crash sensors and wiring in the impact zone, seat belts, and every seat, occupied or not.
The restraint control module must be replaced if any airbag or pretensioner deployed. A driver airbag deployment requires a new steering wheel, steering column, and steering column control module, and a curtain airbag deployment requires replacing the inner cantrail/headliner. Only Lucid safety system parts are permitted, not aftermarket, remanufactured, or used components.
Suspect counterfeit capacitors can black out 2026 Ranger rearview cameras
Ford Motor Company is recalling 11,405 2026 Ranger pickups with the 10.1-inch center stack screen, per its Part 573 filing. A cracked capacitor on the display circuit board can short and blow the display fuse, leaving the SYNC 4 screen blank and the rearview camera image unavailable in reverse. Ford describes the capacitors as suspected counterfeit parts.
Ford's traceability review also identified 46 affected service parts. A remedy is not yet available, and interim owner letters are expected to mail Oct. 5–9 under NHTSA campaign 26V605 (Ford 26C42).
Nissan expects hybrids to lead its North American lineup by 2030
Hybrids will likely become Nissan's primary North American powertrain by 2030, Nissan Americas Chairman Christian Meunier told Automotive News, as reported by Kelley Blue Book. Nissan aims to localize Rogue e-Power production by 2028 and is expected to extend e-Power to the Kicks.
The revived Xterra is slated to offer a V6 hybrid at launch, and that powertrain could later reach the Frontier, according to the report. Meunier said production of the Rogue Plug-in Hybrid has stopped.
