On July 22, a central Florida woman recovering from years of difficulties received an important gift to help her continue her growth in her career and as a mother, thanks to the National Auto Body Council Recycled Rides program.
Allstate donated the 2020 Chevrolet Equinox and the expert technicians of Gerber Collision & Glass fully refurbished it to present to Carrie Ashby.
Ashby’s story is one of perseverance and determination. Ashby has suffered from an abusive home life and relationship, and is doing everything she can to be a productive member of society and a good mother to her child. In the last five years, she has overcome addiction and, through the LifeWorks training at Jobs Partnership, has learned job skills that have helped her progress from part-time to full-time employment and to saving money and home ownership. The gift of reliable transportation is the next step toward ensuring that Ashby can continue rebuilding her life with her son and build upon all her hard work and progress.
Ashby was nominated by Jobs Partnership, an organization that assists the unemployed, underemployed or those seeking a better life, break down roadblocks to employment and a life-changing career through career coaching, skill development and training.
“I can’t believe how beautiful this car is,” said Ashby after seeing her new vehicle. “Having GPS will be amazing. It is going to be so different from taking the bus, and ride sharing. Thank you to the NABC, Allstate who donated the car, the technicians at Gerber Collision who worked on the car, and everyone who was so generous with gift cards and gas cards and car care products to keep it looking as nice as it does now. I am beyond grateful.”
Allstate and Gerber Collision & Glass are both Level One members of the NABC. Allstate is one of the largest donors of vehicles program, having given more than 300.
NABC Recycled Rides is a unique program in which businesses representing all facets of the collision repair industry team up to repair and donate vehicles to individuals and families in need of reliable transportation. Since the inception of the program in 2007, members of the NABC have donated more than 3,500 vehicles valued at some $51 million.
