House approves $25 billion in industry loans

Title washing rules imminent

The federal government is about to publicly unveil proposed rules requiring insurers and salvage yards to identify for a national database all severely damaged vehicles they acquire.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has published (online) a database of serious accidents involving possible product or equipment failure. That information, known as Early Warning data, has been in use by NHTSA for five years but is only now available to the public.

Audatex North America announced that it has updated its Database Reference Manual for 2008--2009. The manual now includes the "Best Practices Guidelines" of the Collision Industry Conference (CIC). The CIC brings together leaders from the auto collision industry, insurance providers, paint suppliers and other major automotive vendors.

Anthony A. Martino, founder, chairman and CEO of Maaco Collision Repair & Auto Painting, passed away on Sunday, January 20. He was 75 years old.
