Rivian Launches Technical Trades Program for Future Technicians at New Georgia Plant

The students will eventually build the company's next generation of EVs at its second U.S. manufacturing plant.

Rivian recently welcomed the first class of 26 future technicians who will eventually support operations at its upcoming Stanton Springs Plant in Georgia to its training program, the company announced Feb. 10 on LinkedIn.

The Rivian Technical Trades Program will provide the students with an accelerated 16-week foundational training program. Upon instructional course completion, they will receive on-the-job training and learn skills from professionals in the EV maker's original manufacturing facility in Normal, IL. Upon graduation, they will return to Georgia to put their expertise to work in the new plant, which will build the company's next-generation R2 line.

“This is a very exciting development,” said David Stevens, director of maintenance at Rivian, as the employees of the inaugural Georgia cohort will be “some of the very first who will eventually call the new Stanton Springs Plant their home.”

The first Rivian Technical Trades Program was established in 2021. Some of those employees are contributing to the R1 line in Normal.

“This innovative program is in partnership with Georgia’s technical college system,” said Arnhelm Mittelbach, VP of manufacturing, “and we’re looking forward to a long-term partnership in the community as we work towards production in Georgia.”

Rivian is set to reveal a compact SUV built to be built on the R2 line on March 7, and is expected to hold a groundbreaking ceremony for the new factory where it will be built later this year.
