On Sept. 12, Michelle Shaw of Chicago received a vehicle to provide her independence and the ability to work and take care of her family, thanks to the National Auto Body Council Recycled Rides® program.

The presentation was held at the CIECA CONNEX Conference in Bloomington, IL.

The 2014 Dodge Durango was donated by Travelers and refurbished by Gerber Collision & Glass of Oak Lawn, IL. Honk for Help and Armstrong Towing donated the 130-mile tow to the event.

“I want to thank our partners Travelers and Gerber Collision & Glass both in Oak Lawn and in Bloomington for everything they did to make this car presentation a reality for Michelle. Also, thanks to the leadership of CIECA for inviting us to present vehicles to deserving recipients at the last four conferences,” said Dale Ross, NABC Recycled Rides program manager.

Shaw is a single mother of two who recently divorced. This is her first time on her own, and she works to support her family but does not have a vehicle. She is a backpacking mom who walks wherever she needs to go. Her son is on the basketball team and she finds rides just so she can be there to support him. She is a humble, grateful, deserving recipient, and this vehicle will make life for her a lot easier for her and her family.

“I’ve been truly blessed and thankful for all the help Family Promise has provided me and now all the wonderful people that were involved in the gift of this car. I just want to say thank you from the bottom my heart,” said Shaw.

“We are thrilled to be a partner in NABC’s Recycled Rides Program. We have donated over 75 cars since the start of the program, proof that we are committed to the communities where we work and live,” said Beth Printz, claims regional vice president at Travelers.

NABC Recycled Rides is a unique program in which businesses representing all facets of the collision repair industry team up to repair and donate vehicles to individuals and families in need of reliable transportation. Since the inception of the NABC Recycled Rides program in 2007, members of the NABC have donated more than 3,200 vehicles valued at some $46 million.

Additional partners in the presentation included Otis Automotive, Klean Detail, Servicemaster, Advanced Remarketing Services and Cars for Charity.
