Cal Auto Club Closing its California call centers

California State Automobile Association says it is closing all of its California call centers earlier than previously announced because it’s too expensive to do business in the state.

Included is the Triple A’s call center in Elk Grove in the Central Valley, which employs about 500 workers.

The company will also close call centers in Livermore, which will close first, on Sept. 1, and Irvine, which will shut down in March of next year. The Elk Grove facility, which had been scheduled for closing in 2011, will now be closed by the end of 2010.

The jobs, about 900 in all, will be sent "offshore" to Arizona and Oklahoma where wages are cheaper.
