The Automotive Service Association of Arizona (ASA-AZ) had another insanely busy month in October. The association's events included the Mohave Chapter's Management Traveling Show on 10/3, the Tucson Chapter Roundtable on 10/6, the State Board of Directors meeting on 10/8, the Tucson Chapter's dinner meeting on 10/14, and the Phoenix Chapter's dinner meeting on 10/21.
With summer drawing to a close and kids returning to school, September marks the return to the hectic nature of everyday life.
The automotive repair industry also experiences this reversion as associations return from summer break and become more active. Luz Rubio, Executive Director of ASA-AZ, noted, “September has been a very busy month for the Arizona ASA and its chapters.”
On September 17-19, the State of California Auto Dismantlers Association (SCADA) hosted their 2015 Annual Convention at the elegant JW Marriott San Francisco Union Square. Automotive recycling professionals from across the state gathered to greet old friends and welcome new attendees as they enjoyed training sessions with industry speakers, social events, a tour of a nearby scrap metal recycling facility and a trade show.
By using a different approach to attract more body shop people to their annual golf tournament, the powers that be at the Santa Clara Chapter of the California Autobody Association (SC-CAA) advertised FREE BEER in their email flyer for their 32nd annual golf tournament, held July 15 at Cinnabar Hills Golf Club in San Jose, CA.
When Jill Meeuwsen, the CEO of Synergy Management Consultants in San Ramon, CA, spoke to the members of the East Bay chapter of the California Autobody Association at their September meeting, she discussed the importance of leadership development and how to create a positive culture for her clients, many of which are body shop owners.

On August 12, 2015, ASA Northwest held its 22nd Annual Golf Tournament at Eagles Pride Golf Course. This was the first year at this new venue, and the annual event attracted over 160 golfers and sponsors. Although the morning began with some rain, the sun soon joined the fun, making for a beautiful day of golfing and networking. Proceeds from the golf tournament benefit the ITEC Education Scholarship Fund.
Former President Gerald Ford said, “I know I am getting better at golf because I am hitting fewer spectators.” Fortunately, no spectators were injured at the East Bay California Autobody Association’s (CAA-EBC) 29th annual golf tournament at Diablo Creek in Concord, CA on July 18, but a few golfers did have to yell “Fore!” or “Duck!” after sending balls into the gallery, as well as sand traps, water hazards and the surrounding foliage.
On the weekend of June 19-21, the Automotive Service Association of Arizona (ASA-AZ) held their 2015 Automotive Training and Expo at the Wild Horse Pass Hotel and Casino in Chandler, AZ. Luz Rubio, Executive Director for ASA-AZ, called the event "a huge success with over 200 attendees and over 55 hours of training. Training included collision and mechanical topics, both management and technical in nature - there was something for everyone in the shop. Our 20 industry sponsors made this event possible because we are unable to offer this caliber of training in our area without their support."
