Anchondo, who had been in the industry for more than 30 years, owned Colormaster Auto Body Shop in El Paso, TX, the small business he used to support his family.
Anchondo's youngest son, Andre, and daughter-in-law, Jordan, died Aug. 3, 2019, in a mass shooting at an El Paso Walmart. Andre and Jordan's infant son, Paul, survived the shooting.
Anchondo's friends have created a GoFundMe account on behalf of his family.
"Mr. Gilbert Anchondo was an amazing father, husband, grandpa, shop owner and loyal friend," the GoFundMe page says. "He has left us to join his son Andre. We must come together as a community to support the Anchondo family as they have endured a rough couple of years and grant Gilbert’s final wish to be buried next to his son Andre.
"Anything helps, as we are mourning the loss of an amazing human, but his spirit shall live on forever...Mr. Anchondo showed the city of El Paso the true definition of love and forgiveness after the Aug. 3 massacre by not showing hate or anger, but love and unity."
