Swift called the donation “a decision made purely from our hearts to help a young man and his parents, [who were] in need of reliable transportation to accommodate Sebastian and his wheelchair.”
“Sebastian was diagnosed with a rare form of epilepsy at 8 years old. Up until age 8, he was a normal, happy, energetic young boy. Each year that passed, he lost more control of his body, yet his mind stays intact,” Swift explained. “When you meet the Castano family, they are so loving and kind; you would never know the burden they carry on their shoulders.”
After Russ and Joann Swift heard that the Castano family’s van frequently broke down, it weighed heavy on them to find a way to help the family. Swift obtained the 2018 Dodge Caravan in the fall and spent several months giving it a complete makeover for the Jan. 19th unveiling.
“We are so excited to see the look on Sebastian’s face as Dream Ride friends and family and VIP guests surround him when he’s presented with this life-changing gift,” Swift shared.
The celebration included appetizers from Carmines Palm Beach Gardens, entertainment by Lovelock Music Group, an exotic car show and a live artist.
The Hometown Foundation, Inc. is a 501(c)(3) charitable foundation founded in 2002 that supports six core community needs: military, children in need, intellectual disabilities, life-threatening illness, emergency response personnel and animal welfare. Through its signature events, The Dream Ride Experience and Dream Cars and Cocktails, The Hometown Foundation has raised more than $7.7 million for Special Olympics and other charities.
Swift noted, “These incredible acts of kindness are what Dream Ride is all about when it comes to helping those in need. Amazing things happen when organizations such as Dream Ride come together with the community.
“It was a big surprise to the family because they had no idea what this was about. [This family] is a family that basically has not much to be thankful for but is thankful for everything, and those people are very few and far between. We do the best for our community and the best for our friends and family. You make a living by what you make. You make a life out of what you give.”
