Hopefully, you'll soon be able to see DeLorean DMC-12s rolling down the streets, just like any other car.

Famed for its appearance in the hit movie Back to the Future, the car has become a bit of an icon.
Unfortunately, DeLorean Motor Company came to a sudden halt a few years ago, and no more DeLorean DMC-12s were made.
Four years ago the carmaker said it was planning to start making the cars again, but since then not another word, or DeLorean, was shared.
That, however, may change in the near future.
DeLorean didn't stop making the iconic car because it was bored with the model; it was against the law.

The Low Volume Motor Vehicle Manufacturers Act of 2015 enabled companies to build up to 325 cars per year without adhering to modern safety regulations.
Unfortunately, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) didn't step up to put in place the regulations these companies had to follow.
So, four years later, the Speciality Equipment Market Association (SEMA) has finally stepped up and pushed a lawsuit last October.
And now, the NHTSA has released the long-awaited regulations.

The Office of Management and Budget needs to still review the regulations, a task that could take six months. Then the regulations need to become law.
That said, things are in motion and the DeLorean DMC-12s could well be underway within the next year.

DeLorean fans out there can expect to see an updated version of the well-beloved car. Plans for a new engine and modern amenities will be sure to happen, but the classic look of the car will be retained.
The company ventures to say the "new" car will cost around $100,000.
