Police Investigate Shooting Incident at Bailey's Auto Refinishing in Carthage, NY

New York State and Village of Carthage police responded at 7:26 a.m. Aug. 16 to a reported shooting incident that occurred at Bailey’s Auto Refinishing, located at 789 West End Ave. in Carthage.

When patrols arrived, they interviewed 42-year-old Shannon M. Ayers, who said he went to the auto body shop to speak with Randy Bailey. Ayers said he banged on the windows of the overhead doors to get Bailey's attention, and Bailey shot several gunshots at him through the garage windows. Ayers said he hit the ground, started crawling and was injured when glass shards began falling out of the windows. He was treated at the scene and released.

 

Bailey, 44, of Carthage, was transported to Carthage Area Hospital and pronounced deceased from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound.

 

State police were assisted at the scene by Carthage Village Police, Carthage Fire Department and the Carthage Area Rescue Squad.

 

The investigation is continuing.
