Peace and Shaw delivered an in-depth and highly informative presentation on advanced driver assistance systems. It began with Peace covering all the components of ADAS, including radars, antennas and modules. He explained that cameras are located on the steering column, the front lower grille, the liftgate, the decklid and the windshield, near the rear view mirror. He also noted that sonar sensors and ultrasonic sensors can be located in several areas, including the rear quarter panel, the rear bumper and the front fascia.
Listing the types of ADAS, Peace included parking assistance, adaptive cruise control, collision avoidance, night vision, active tow, vehicle-to-vehicle communication, full-speed range lane-centering cruise control, and testing and repair information, which includes locating collision statements.
Moving into the importance of pre- and post-repair scans, Peace and Shaw explained how to complete a pre-scan inspection, identified the module locations and explored the removal and installation of new components as well as aftermarket components. They talked about wiring harnesses and connectors, angles, paint thickness and programming, which includes set-up and calibration. The presentation concluded with the speakers answering attendees’ questions.
