In March 2015, the Property Casualty Insurers Association of America (PCI) released a report claiming that insurance premiums in Rhode Island have increased drastically over the past decade. This is allegedly because of 17 pieces of legislation, sponsored by the Auto Body Association of Rhode Island (ABARI), that have been passed into law since 2003.
On Saturday, March 14, the Long Island Auto Body Repairmen's Association (LIABRA) held an aluminum repair seminar with guest trainer Larry Montanez of P&L Consultants at Touch of Class Collision in Valley Stream, NY. The event attracted 50 attendees.
On March 10, the Auto Body Association of Connecticut (ABAC) held a town-hall-style quarterly meeting at the Country House Restaurant in East Haven, CT. Over 110 attendees, association members and non-members alike, joined ABAC as they began their 2015 season for an exciting evening of news, updates and guest speakers.
In February, CNN’s investigation into unsafe repairs performed with aftermarket parts at preferred shops, due to insurer pressure, generated a lot of attention from the general public and government officials. One person who took particular notice was Connecticut Senator Richard Blumenthal. He has asked the Department of Justice to investigate repairs that may have been performed with imitation parts that could possibly result in unsafe vehicles being returned to the road. Seeking to understand the issue of imitation parts in greater depth, Senator Blumenthal turned to the Auto Body Association of Connecticut (ABAC).
Collision repair industry professionals face a number of complex problems. Not only do shop owners contend with the day-to-day business of repairing vehicles, they also need to consider overhead costs, like utilities and marketing. On Thursday, January 15, the Connecticut Collision Repair Specialists (CCRS) held their first meeting of 2015 at the Honda Motor Company Warehouse in Windsor Locks, CT. The meeting was busy and productive, including some training and a tour of the facility as well as Board elections.
The American International Automobile Dealers Association (AIADA) announced on January 25 that East Hartford, Connecticut, auto dealer Bradley Hoffman as its 2015 chairman. Hoffman took over the position during AIADA's 45th Annual Meeting and Luncheon, held in San Francisco, California.
New Yorkers are known for always being on the go, and 2015 is starting off with a bang as the New York State Auto Collision Technician Association (NYSACT) has introduced a bill on behalf of all the state’s industry associations which, if passed, will require disclosure and consent before non-OEM parts can be used in a repair. Although the Auto Body Craftsmen’s Guild (ABCG) was founded in the early 1960s by a group of concerned shop owners, the association became stagnant over the past five years due to the absence of a dedicated administrator; only the Board of Directors was holding the association together. Matters changed this fall when ABCG enlisted the aid of Eddie Kizenberger Jr. as their Executive Director.
At 6:30PM on November 18, the Auto Body Association of Connecticut (ABAC) held a member meeting at the Chowder Pot IV in Hartford. During the meeting, Ron Perretta presented several updates on the collision repair industry and discussed common trends within the industry. According to Tony Ferraiolo, President of ABAC, “the event went great. Our membership wants educational content, and we are providing it at every meeting.”
On Tuesday, November 18, the Long Island Auto Body Repairmen’s Association (LIABRA) held their monthly member meeting at 7:30PM at the Melville Marriott. At the meeting, shop owners and technicians received free technical training from General Motors (GM) who, along with Eagle Auto Mall, co-sponsored the event.
The Auto Care Association (ACA) reported on Oct. 27 that U.S. Senator Richard Blumenthal, D-Conn., criticized the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) about its lack of urgency in clarifying its interpretation of the Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act. The ACA has voiced concerns in the past about automakers misleading consumers into wrongfully believing that serving their vehicles outside dealerships might void warranties.
The Auto Care Association has released the 2014 Digital Collision Repair Trends report, an online 70-page analysis of data compiled from primary Auto Care Association research, federal government and independent research data sources. The report highlights the size and scope of the U.S. collision industry, including the paint, body and equipment (PBE) segment, with a brief analysis of the Canadian collision industry. It also includes analyses of factors influencing the collision industry, automotive collision insurance coverage and the Direct Repair Program (DRP).
