More than 40 association members participated in a networking opportunity while enjoying wine and a buffet meal before the conversation began with Martin.
The group’s discussion began with its traditional getting-to-know-one-another activity, which included conversations about television, movies, personal preferences and more. Martin then shared the details of her impressive career journey. She began as an intern at Ford and progressed to purchasing manager and then director at HELLA, where she now works as vice president of sales and marketing.
Emilie Sendra, AWAF marketing committee member, and Patricia Price, AWAF marketing co-chair, recalled, “Entering Ford was a natural progression for Julie Martin, whose grandfather worked on the assembly line and dad worked there for 35 years. On the other hand, entering a German company was a culture shock that, nevertheless, she overpassed with flying colors thanks to her leadership, her communication skills, and her obvious care for people around her.”
Balancing her role as a mother with her career was another challenge that Martin discussed with the group. By being honest and confident about what she needed and asking for what she wanted, she felt she had the best of both worlds.
Martin shared, “The days I was home with my kids, I was so happy, and the days I could leave them and go to work, I was so happy.”
