This document updates the original 2016 guidance by incorporating public and congressional feedback.
On Nov. 6, 2017, the NHTSA held a meeting to address concerns about provisions of the guidance, specifically the safety self-assessment asked of automakers. Following the opening remarks by acting administrator Heidi King, a panel of NHTSA’s staff heard comments from various stakeholder groups.
The panel included:
• Nathanial Beuse, associate administrator, Vehicle Safety Research, U.S. Department of Transportation
• Debbie Sweet, automated vehicle policy adviser, NHTSA
As with the original guidance, A Vision for Safety 2.0 is voluntary.
