GM to Idle Lansing, MI, Plant Due to Semiconductor Chip Shortage

General Motors is halting production at two of its plants that make midsize SUVs, including one in Lansing, MI, due to a parts shortage.

But the automaker said April 8 it is able to restart its plant in Missouri that makes midsize pickups, though many of GM's other plants remain idle.


The auto industry has been faced with a global crisis involving a massive shortage of semiconductor chips used in various car parts. It's forced Ford Motor Co. and Stellantis, formerly called Fiat Chrysler Automobiles, to idle many factoriesa too.
