The Detroit Youth Choir has been making waves of late with its awe-inspiring performances on NBC’s America’s Got Talent, finishing in 2nd place this season and just missing the $1 million grand prize.

Though the 52-member choir didn’t come away with the top prize, it has come away with a new fan following. Count Ford among the throngs, as evidenced by its recent pledge to help the group keep the music going.

Ford Fund is providing every member of the choir with a $1,000 scholarship, which should be enough to buy a semester’s worth of textbooks. To help the Detroit Youth Choir get around, as it will likely be in high demand moving forward, Ford has also donated a 15-passenger Transit van for the group to use.

“We share the pride and excitement of Detroiters everywhere in recognizing these remarkable and talented young people,” said Jim Vella, president, Ford Motor Company Fund. “We’re thrilled to be able to help them not only with their transportation challenges, but also the next chapter of their lives.”

The Detroit Youth Choir was founded in 1996 with a focus on theater arts, dance, and music as well as essential life skills. Targeting Detroit-area kids between the ages of eight and 18, the Detroit Youth Choir boasts an incredible 98 percent graduation rate over its 20-plus-year history.

The donations are just the latest efforts on behalf of Ford and Ford Fund to give back to the Detroit and southeast Michigan communities. In the past ten years, Ford and its philanthropic arm have given $177 million to various causes.
