A three-generation business for this family of repairers, Mike Bighley, owner of CARSTAR Bighley Auto Body, has grown up in the industry. Sweeping floors, washing cars and cleaning the parking lot were just some of the jobs Bighley took on as a young boy when he helped his father out in the facility. Working in the collision repair center his whole life, Bighley learned everything he knows about the job, on the job, until he eventually took over ownership in 2007.
“It felt like we were on the outside looking in, where I saw the market undergo significant change, but our business was not able to take advantage of those growth opportunities,” says Bighley. “Joining the CARSTAR family really allows us to grow at the rate we are capable to grow at by empowering us with resources to realize our full potential in our own market.”
Bighley’s grandfather opened the business in 1957 with his father taking it over in 1977. This 7,600 square foot facility is equipped to provide premier repairs to all makes and models. In the process of earning its I-CAR Gold certification, CARSTAR Bighley Auto Body also looks to pursue OEM certifications in the future.
“The CARSTAR family is comprised of several independently owned family businesses, like the Bighley’s, and our model is built to specifically help them thrive,” says Michael Macaluso, president, CARSTAR. “We encourage our owners to utilize the North American resources we have to leverage their business locally and compete with the large chains in their market, while still maintaining their independence and ownership.”
