The students took part in Northeast Community College’s Applied Technology Career Day on the Norfolk campus.
Shanelle Grudzinski, interim dean of applied technology, said guests took part in campus tours and saw students work in the College’s applied technology labs.
“This was a day of opportunities for students interested in technical fields and construction to learn more about different career options, as well as a chance to experience the latest technologies, tools, and techniques used in today’s high-demand, high-paying career fields. The nearly 260 students, counselors, parents and others took part in these activities in our state-of-the-art facilities," Grudzinski said.
Sixty-seven percent of the students who pre-registered for the career day were high school juniors and seniors. One group of students from Hugo, CO, traveled 465 miles for seven and a half hours to attend the event.
Programs hosting students included: auto body technology, automotive technology, diesel technology, building construction, manufacturing, drafting, electrical construction and control, electromechanical, heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC), plumbing, utility line, welding, and wind energy technology.
Grudzinski said they also gave away four $1,000 tuition waivers to four of the students at the end of the day.
