NABA’s Second Roundtable in July Focuses on Writing a Proper Estimate

The Nebraska Auto Body Association (NABA) is dedicated to providing information that members need in order to become more successful in their collision repair businesses.

The association’s second roundtable discussion event of the month was held on the evening of Thursday, July 25 at the Lazlo’s Empyrean Room and sponsored by Auto Body Supply of Lincoln. The roundtable discussion was facilitated by NABA President Dave Yard and Vice President James Rodis. Shop owners, managers and estimators were invited to attend the event, and the 22 attendees represented 12 different shops.

 

Christine Neth, co-owner of Auto Body Supply of Lincoln with her husband, Wade, stated, “James and Dave did a great job presenting this information. Their experience and perspectives from a large dealership shop and a privately owned shop provided the attendees with an ability to relate to their own shops. The event included an opportunity for each attendee to share questions, concerns, thoughts or feedback, which was well received by the group."

 

Roundtable topics included best practices for writing a thorough and accurate estimate, OEM procedures that should be represented in an estimate, and receiving proper compensation for paint and materials.

 

“The group was encouraged to learn about the restructuring of the NABA and hear first-hand the goals and objectives of the organization. Because of this event, we had a shop notify us that they joined the NABA the very next day, as they realized the value this group can provide to their business,” Neth shared.

 

A long-time NABA member wrote an email to Neth, stating, “I personally think getting a group like that together to talk can only help us as a whole.”

 

Another attendee said, “The event was very helpful and we are making changes to implement what we learned about. Thanks for sponsoring this and inviting us;” while, a third’s feedback was “We are already incorporating some of the ideas.”

 

According to Neth, “The response from attendees has been overwhelmingly positive. Individuals who attended began contacting us immediately the next morning to request assistance with obtaining more information.”

 

NABA’s roundtable events provide a platform for shops to share information in a neutral setting.
