On March 15, St. Louis I-CAR Committee members met at Ranken Technical College for their March meeting.

According to Chair Shelly Jones, “We had a packed house for the I-CAR meeting. Our meetings are open to anyone who wants to learn more about I-CAR.”

During the meeting, Shawn Counts of PPG was named vice-chair of marketing. He will help keep the group’s Facebook page updated and work with the committee on its 2019 goals.

Jones stated, “We couldn’t be happier to have Shawn as an officer of the group.”

The 2019 committee goals were also unveiled during the meeting.

Jones shared, “Achieving our goals again in 2019 will give us Platinum Committee recognition. The group of people who participate are geared up to achieve the I-CAR goals and receive this recognition. Our committee officers and instructors attended the Instructor & Volunteer Conference March 1--2. This is one of my favorite trips of the year. We learn what is new with I-CAR and the industry. Our committee members and instructors are recognized for all their hard work.”

John Helterbrand, vice-chair of training for the committee, provided an update on I-CAR’s exciting upcoming changes. Gene Slattery, education coordinator for the committee, provided an update on the upcoming I-CAR Job Fair to be held at Gateway Motorsports on Sept. 27.

“At Gene's request for schools liaisons, many people volunteered to help. These people will be assigned a school(s) to prepare for the upcoming job fair. These liaisons will make sure the students get the most out of this tremendous opportunity to meet with all the hiring representatives at the top companies in the industry,” Jones said.

“We recently sent out the partner (sponsor) information packets for the job fair and they are starting to roll in, which is fantastic! When a company signs up to participate, we can start advertising them to the students. We have a May 1st registration deadline for partners to be guaranteed a spot in our student guide and other printing. The partners that sign up prior to May 1 will be given a spreadsheet of automotive and collision students who are searching for jobs starting in May 2019.”
