Mike's (Mike Rose) Auto Body in the East Bay area of San Francisco rebuilt and donated two automobiles to needy, deserving families at Christmas as part of the national Akzo Nobel Acoat Select Benevolence Program.

Twenty employees at Mike's locations in Concord and on North Broadway in Walnut Creek helped to rebuild, refinish and detail the cars.

The company worked with local charities to identify needy, working families. Michelle Jackson with her 4 year old son Sal was the recipient of the 1995 Honda Accord restored at the North Broadway location. Michelle is a single mother who is working and going to school. Her car had broken down a few months ago and she was using public transportation to get from work to school.

Kishia VanWinkle received the 2000 Pontiac Grand AM restored by the Concord shop. Kishia, a single mother of two, had been working full time to support her family while relying on public transportation.

In addition to the cars repaired for the two single, working mothers, Mike's donated a van to a local hospice. The entire team at Mike's pitched in to rebuild the vehicles.

Under the Akzo Benevolence program, the shop supplies the labor, Akzo Nobel supplies refinish materials and program management while local suppliers help out with parts and services.
