Avery v. State Farm petition denied by U.S. Supreme Court

The U.S. Supreme Court denied the petition of Michael E. Avery, et al in their suit against State Farm Mutual Automobile Insurance Co. After almost 10 years of dueling between Avery, et al and State Farm, the U.S. Supreme Court put an end to the national aftermarket parts class action lawsuit March 6.

This refusal to review lends support to the Illinois Supreme Court verdict not to award Avery the $1.8 billion he initially won in an Illinois district court.

Controversy had arisen regarding Justice Lloyd Karmeier participating in the decision, since he was elected to the court after the case had been heard. Furthermore, the plaintiff's claimed conflict of interest, since one major contributor to Karmeier's campaign was a group founded by State Farm Lobbyist Bill Shepherd - a group which donated over $1.1 to Karmeier's campaign.

The Supreme Court's decision was issued on a list of cases denied the Supreme Court forum without comment.
