National Investigation Finds Potential Deadly Gaps in EV Fire Training

When an electric vehicle (EV) catches fire, first responders face a new and evolving set of challenges and hazards.

As Spotlight on America first reported last week, there's a race to make sure firefighters are ready to tackle the special circumstances that come with EV fires. But in a monthslong nationwide investigation, our team found gaps in that training that could have serious consequences.

 

Spotlight on America was given exclusive access to cutting-edge training that prepares firefighters for a nationwide challenge: fighting EV fires. We were invited to the Maryland Fire Rescue Institute, where fire training instructor Jason Leone explained why fighting an EV fire is different than a standard car.
