This follows the February 25 resignation of Dan Young, head of CARSTAR U.S. Young was named president during Driven Brands’ acquisition of CARSTAR in November 2015.
Autobody News spoke to Jose Costa, Driven Brands paint and collision group president, about the recent changes at the company.
“The merger was planned later on but with Dan Young’s resignation we had to accelerate some of our plans,” said Costa. “We respect Dan’s decision and thank him for being an invaluable asset during these pivotal months of on-boarding.”
Macaluso has been with the CARSTAR brand since 2008 and helped grow the franchisee network in Canada to more than 240 centers. “He has worked in multiple roles and we’re very excited to give him the opportunity to lead both enterprises,” said Costa.
CARSTAR’s top initiatives, according to Costa, will focus on growing insurance relationships, franchisee profitability and further expansion. “We always knew that Canada had a strong business, much stronger than the U.S. and this gives us the opportunity to let the Canadian infrastructure permeate the U.S.,” he said. “We’re going to absorb the Canadian best practices into the U.S.”
Costa explained that Canada supports its field structure differently than the U.S. with a head of development, head of operations and head of insurance by territory. Upcoming plans also include hiring more field support in the U.S.
Dean Fischer, head of U.S. operations, and Arlo Johnson, head of U.S. insurance, will both report to Macaluso. No other changes were made to the executive team.
