During the Shop Owner’s Expo Awards Ceremony on Friday evening, Brett Penzkofer, vice president of N.A. Aftermarket for Meritor, addressed the crowd. Thirty-five trophies were awarded to shop owners who have attained significant milestones in developing their businesses. Kate Jonasse, multi-shop owner of KTech Auto and Pauline’s Automotive in Sebastopol, CA, received the first-ever award for Sustained Master Elite of Shop Management, designed to recognize operators who have consistently demonstrated effective management tools as well as financial and organizational stability.
Saturday’s agenda focused on educational topics and offered 12 sessions for attendees to choose from. A variety of management content was delivered, teaching shop owners about everything from growth to marketing, sales and even mentoring new technicians. The event’s penultimate day concluded with a NASCAR-themed celebration that included a buffet-style barbecue, racing games, a live band and a green-screened photo booth.
Sunday began with an interactive workshop on employee engagement, presented by event emcee and DRIVE Systems Development Coordinator Wes Severi. During the workshop, attendees practiced team-building techniques in which games were incorporated to maximize production and improve employee efficiency.
Kevin House of Center Collision in Tacoma, WA observed, “This expo opened me up to new technology and the upcoming industry trends. I am walking away with a lot of great information that I can implement right away to help our shop run better.”
