Mobsteel starts with Detroit’s finest vintage cars and turns them into modern day menacing street machines. The cars they build are a part of American history---vintage Detroit steel.
Adam Genei is the owner and creative soul of Mobsteel. He supports his city and American engineering by transforming vintage cars into custom, modern rides that mix Detroit’s celebrated past and its evolving future. Pam Genei is Adam’s wife, business partner, and the financial manager of Mobsteel.
Born in Detroit and raised in its suburbs, Genei developed a love for the auto industry at an early age by working in his grandfather’s Ford dealership. He grew an appreciation for hard work and expanded his skills in his parents’ shop supplying the Big Three. With that relationship established, he started making parts for the Big Three, turning that hobby into a business.
Mobsteel started as a one-bay garage with a welding bench and a mission to celebrate the automotive industry. The name has grown into a worldwide brand, with that same mission giving life to the Detroit Steel Wheel Company. Embodying the ideals of Mobsteel, Detroit Steel Wheel Co. has become the resurgence solution for manufacturing in the US. The Mobsteel brand has continued to strengthen its relationship with the Big Three and celebrate the success of businesses whose efforts lie within this country.
Genei's formula for success is simple: hard work. He has brought back the old school mentality of “do it yourself” to make a better quality product. His journey has taken him and his team from fabricating metal, architecture, furniture, and vehicles, to manufacturing after-market components such as suspension, wheels and injection molding. All of these self-taught skills have shaped the identity of Mobsteel as a “make it happen” company.
Autobody News reached out to Genei via phone for more information on Mobsteel.
“The minute you decide you want to create something, you need to roll up your sleeves and do it,” he said.
He then elaborated on the tough times during which he built Mobsteel, making it an identifiable dream of hard work and success in this economy.
“The fact that you can wake up in the morning and be anyone you want to be is an unbelievable feeling,” he said.
Autobody News followed up with Genei for more information on Mobsteel's preferred paint brand, Axalta.
"We have been using Axalta since we started Mobsteel,” he said. “We are only concerned about using the highest quality materials possible. Axalta not only delivered that, but is the most complete system on the market, which becomes critical when restoring a car from top to bottom."
Adam re-invests all profits into the Mobsteel mission, and takes risks because he knows that the business is going nowhere but up. Being on the main stage and doing business with Ford, Axalta, Autodie, SATA and ACDelco have validated what he’s created.
Mobsteel's team participates in the NAIAS, Detroit Autorama (March 2--4) and the SEMA Show. This year, they went to the Charity Preview with the Axalta team to celebrate the launch of the color of the year: "StarLite White.” Mobsteel works with the Detroit Hispanic Development Center for their Charity event on April 20. Coming up on May 3 is the Cleary University "Vehicle to a Better Future Event,” for which Adam is a member of the Board of Trustees.
