At this year’s International Autobody Congress & Exposition (NACE), Chrysler released three new body repair CD-ROMs and a Structural-Sectioning Procedure Guide. This is in addition to the publications that are already available for order on the Tech Authority web site.

Structural-Sectioning Procedure Guide

Figure 1. This booklet compiling most of Chrysler’s structural sectioning procedures was introduced at NACE and will soon be available from Chrysler.

The Structural–Sectioning Procedure Guide (see Figure 1) includes information on both unibody and body-over-frame vehicles. At the front of the manual is Chrysler’s position on the use of heat during repairs. Chrysler recommends cold straightening only due to extensive use of high-strength and advanced high-strength steels. This statement supersedes any previously released information from Chrysler.

A large portion of this manual addresses frame dimensions and front frame rail sectioning procedures for multiple vehicles, a trunk floor partial replacement procedure, and a front lower radiator crossmember replacement procedure. Most of these procedures have already been published in the existing body repair CD-ROMs and on the Chrysler service web site. This publication brings many of the procedures together in one spot. After taking a good look at this manual, you will notice that each procedure is unique and very little can be generalized for Chrysler platform vehicles.

Chrysler has included their policy on the use of reconditioned wheels and the use of recycled airbags, or other recycled restraint system parts.

There is also an updated welding chart that shows Collision And Field Repair Fusion Arc Welding Procedure Specifications for truck frame vs. body shell exterior and underbody panels. It is important to note that Chrysler highly recommends all repairers obtain weld training and demonstrate weld proficiency through testing programs such as I-CAR.

Much of the information in this manual is also mentioned in the I-CAR Collision Repair Overview for Chrysler, Dodge, and Jeep Vehicles (DCX01) Live training program. The procedure for sectioning the front rail on the 300/Magnum/Charger was previously only available in the I-CAR Chrysler 300 Lower Rail Partial Replacement (CHR01) online training program. On the subject of training, Chrysler recognizes a number of I-CAR Live training programs in the 2007 Curriculum Skill Area 12–Body Repair of the Chrysler Academy School of Technical Training.
