High-end body work is a family affair in Scottsdale E-mail
Monday, 05 February 2007

Raintree Auto Body has been fixing fine automobiles in the exclusive neighborhood of Scottsdale, Arizona since 1989. Repairing over 250 cars per month, this high-end Mercedes Benz Certified Collision Repair Center is equipped and ready for the 21st century automobile.

Owner, Andy Val, began his lifetime vocation in Cleveland, Ohio rebuilding a Model A in the family garage during high school. He would drive home from school in his 1957 Chevrolet convertible and work on his Model A.

Val defined quality workmanship with that car and today quality is the defining business principal at Raintree Auto Body. Raintree is an I-CAR Gold Class facility and the paint shop has all BASF Certifications.

There are a lot of industry firsts with Val and Raintree Auto Body. He was the first to bring a bench of any kind to the Arizona market with his use of the Paulee Universal Car bench in the 1970’s. In 1991, Raintree repaired the first extensively damaged all-aluminum body Nissan NSX.  More recently, Right Toyota honored Raintree for having the highest CSI in Arizona for Toyota Collision Repair.

Employees are the backbone

Raintree is a family-run business, with Val and sons Paul and Tom actively engaged in daily operations. Paul is General Manager and Tom writes estimates and manages claims.

With 60 employees in this 21,000 square-foot shop, the focus is on quality repairs. Customers are asked for their input, and the 98 percent CSI reflects their satisfaction.
There is not much employee turnover at this busy shop.   Production Manager, Dan Lepke has been with Raintree for 12 years. Val’s Girl Friday, Lori Acevado, has been with him for 15 years and Diego Juarez has painted cars for Val for 35 years. Juarez’s two sons, D.J. and Adam, learned the trade from their father and now work with him full-time.

Juarez and his sons are the journeyman painters and have three painter’s helpers. They spray BASF products in two Garmat booths. The team follows a traditional workweek and still manages to produce over 250 cars

per month.

It’s all in the details

The detail department is like a new car pre-delivery. Most cars at Raintree are high-end and new. When this generously staffed, busy department brings the car to the customer, it looks like it did from the showroom floor. The finished product was evident in the Aston-Martin that recently rolled out of the detail department.
An efficient front office

It is humming with activity as you walk in the office, where Sandra Tomlinson, another veteran Raintree employee handles the front desk with kind authority as she pleasantly screens calls.

There are five full-time estimators and three administrative staff who control the paperwork. They use Mitchell, ADP and CCC to work all estimates efficiently and accurately through the shop. They use Rome Technologies, Complete Shop, for their management system.

Raintree works with all insurance companies for their customers. As they are well known for high-quality repairs, long term dealership relationships and repeat customers keep this shop bursting at the seams.
