QRS air compressors offer many advantages over reciprocating compressors E-mail

I recently added the Chicago Pneumatic QRS Quiet Rotary Screw air compressor to my shop because of its quiet operation, smooth and pulse-free air output, compact size, high output volume, low vibration, prolonged service intervals, and long life.

 QRS Air Compressor

The QRS rotary screw package is built to be able to run continuously 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, if necessary. However, the built-in timed shutdown will stop the compressor and motor when compressed air is not needed, resulting in lower energy demands. In contrast, reciprocating compressors should be operated at a 70% duty cycle in order to not overheat the pump which could cause excessive wear or - even worse - failure.

The QRS HP (without refrigerated dryer) model supplies cleaner and cooler air than reciprocating compressors. Oil lubricates the bearings, seals between the rotors and cools the air during the compression cycle. This oil is cleaned by an oil filter and than taken out of the air by an oil separator resulting in clean air. Since the QRS does not create friction like a reciprocating compressor, and has a built-in cooling system, the compressed air is delivered at a minimum of 100 degrees cooler than reciprocating compressors, resulting in less moisture in the delivered compressed air.

With a refrigerated dryer, the QRS HPD cools the compressed air down to 39 degrees F, removing about 95% of the moisture that is in the compressed air. A refrigerated dryer is the most efficient method for removing moisture for paint spray applications. The QRS HPD is a perfect choice for body shops. Add a coalescing filter after the dryer, and the compressed air system is ready for every paint job.

And it is quiet

The sound levels of the QRS range from 61 dB(A) to 68 dB(A) for the 15 hp model, which is far quieter than any reciprocating compressor I have come in contact with. Therefore, the QRS can be located anywhere in the shop as long as it has a good air flow and is in a reasonably clean environment.

The QRS rotary screw design has no wearing parts, so the compressor life expectancy is 3 to 5 times the life of a reciprocating pump. The QRS is fitted standard with magnetic starter, motor overload protection, high discharge temperature shutdown at the compressor, control transformer with fused protection, and timed shutdown when compressed air is not needed.

The QRS is a completely packaged unit with compressor, tank and dryer, simply requiring a power supply to the compressor, the dryer and air line connection to your shop air system. It arrives factory assembled and tested, read to be installed simply by a qualified electrician. With no vibration, the QRS can easily be mounted on a mezzanine or above the office if desired.
