At Huntington Beach Bodyworks (HBB), we believe in building dreams of steel by treating our clients to only the best possible work and the most creative designs. To bring our HBB designs to life, we use the highest quality tools that offer consistency that lives up to our reputation.

From the filtration that delivers the clean air quality and volume needed for perfect paint jobs and safe breathing air to the spray guns, SATA Spray Equipment fits the bill at HBB. The Vision 2000 breathing mask protects eyes, skin and air from absorbing any of the inorganic solvents or isocyantes found in today's clear coat finishes.

Many of our projects involve pearl and high metallic base coats, as well as Kandy colors. To ensure the ultimate in metallic control, my gun of choice is the SATAjet 2000 HVLP, with a 1.4 nozzle set-up. At 29 PSI, this gun delivers fine atomization, with an even fan that allows for an even finish, every time. The fine atomization affords faster film coverage, with fewer coats. This provides a thinner base coat film, for a much harder, more durable substrate, that gives much greater durability. The great control over metallics and pearls helps to give a perfectly even finish across the entire vehicle, and to the many specific parts that may need to be painted.

With so many eyes upon the work when it leaves the shop, the paint job has to be perfect. We cannot accept striping or blotchy finishes, and the SATAjet 2000 HVLP helps us make the work turn out right - the first time.

Clear coat is sprayed with the SATAjet RP, a reduced pressure gun that is a hybrid of high pressure atomization mixed with HVLP transfer efficiency providing the fast working speed I need, and fine finish results, while saving unnecessary overspray. Since most of our work involves graphics and airbrushing, we spray three coats of clear, sand it to remove any texture or imperfections, and re-clear. The RP has made the job of sanding smooth as a breeze with its fine finish results. This gun of-fers me a lot of benefits. I spray clear with this gun at a pressure of 32 PSI, with a 1.4 mm nozzle size. Not only does my booth stay cleaner with the low overspray, but the flash-off and dry times between coats are reduced. The curing process of my clear is also much faster which accelerates the re-assembly work. In a shorter time, our customer receives the final product - ready to show off.

Guns for metal work

HBB is very proud of our metal work as well, finishing most metal projects without the use of body fillers or plastic. We then prime to perfection with our SATAjet KLC HVLP primer gun with a 1.7 mm nozzle set. This gun prevents overspray, and has been tested to provide transfer efficiencies with HS primers of 93%. It gives us a solid foundation upon which to build our paint schemes.

One of the newer guns in my arsenal is the SATA Minijet 4 HVLP - a small gun with big abilities. This little gun makes painting small parts, or areas that are hard to reach, a lot easier to paint. From very small lines and detail, to a fan that stretches to around 8 inches, this little gun allows me to paint everything from frame rails to bumper covers, small spots to spoiler and body mod kits, with perfect base coat and clear control. It has been the perfect addition to the shop for painting motorcycle tins and chassis parts, along with helmets.

Furthermore it provides a perfect canvas for Terry Stephens, our in-house airbrush artist, to lay out some of the most wicked artwork ever seen. Stephens has recently begun using SATA's new SATAgraph 3 airbrush. It has nozzles as fine as 0.15 mm, and gives him the control and accuracy he likes along with the smoothest trigger design available.

To get the results that meet our expectations, HBB uses only the finest tools. From my personally-designed work stations to the spray equipment, everything has to have a purpose, and must create the perfect results. I have been very fortunate to find a combination of tools and an incredibly talented staff of people to make my dreams into a reality - all for the benefit of the Huntington Beach Bodyworks family.
