Monday, 05 February 2007
The Automotive Aftermarket Industry Association (AAIA) recently published five market research reports, analyzing trends in the aftermarket industry. Topics range from collision repair and equipment purchasing trends to reports on brakes and filters.

The 2006 Collision Repair Trends: Industry Statistics & Analysis combines the latest available industry data from original AAIA research, government sources and independent research suppliers about the size and scope of the collision repair segment of the industry and the paint and body equipment aftermarket. Data in the report includes: annual miles driven; roadway congestion; vehicle collisions; and size of the collision repair industry. This cost of this report is $99 for AAIA members or $199 for nonmembers.

Total collision repair industry sales grew 4.4 percent in 2005 to $38.2 billion, according to the 2006 Collision Repair Trends: Industry Statistics & Analysis. Independent paint and body repair shops accounted for more than half of the collision repair market at $20.8 billion.

“Collision repair shop sales for the past five years have been averaging about 5.7 percent annually,” said Kathleen Schmatz, AAIA president and CEO. “This steady growth has been driven by several factors, including increases in the number of registered vehicles, miles driven on U.S. roads, increased road congestion and the higher cost of collision repair per vehicle.”

Report on Brakes for the U.S. Automotive Aftermarket and the Report on Filters for the U.S. Automotive Aftermarket contain key findings in a variety of areas, including industry performance, which focuses on the overall industry performance of leading suppliers. The reports also estimate market share, annual growth and the strength of national part brands. The market size and segmentation portions of the reports illustrate the estimated market share among suppliers, and future market trends and the status of pay-on-scan are also detailed.

The 2006/2007 Equipment Purchasing Trends report is a nationwide survey that gains insight into current and future purchasing decisions of professionals that utilize shop equipment for automotive repair. The report reviews historical data from 2004 and 2006, and analyzes individual repair shop purchases, as well as purchases made by the shop as a whole.
