CAWA Says it was Instrumental in Stopping California Bill Aimed at Restricting Access to Certain Aftermarket Parts
The California Automotive Wholesalers Association released the following press release on June 28 from Sacramento, CA:
Today is a victory for consumers and the automotive aftermarket alike as a bill aimed at attempting to lock out the industry from important information relative to key information for replacement in certain automobiles has been defeated. Failing to pass the Assembly Floor today by a vote of 29 to 25, with 41 votes needed to pass, SB 750 which is sponsored by BMW, sought to exempt automakers from providing electronic key code information to locksmiths, requiring motorists to contact the automaker to get a replacement key for their vehicle.
California DOI Proposes Amendments to Standards for Repair and Use of Aftermarket Parts Regulation

The California Department of Insurance (DOI) has published proposed amendments to its Standards for Repair and Use of Aftermarket Parts Regulation.

Orlando Region Parts, Service and Body Shop Managers Club Golf Tournament
The Orlando Region Parts, Service and Body Shop Managers Club will host a golf tournament on Thursday, July 19. Registration begins at 11 a.m. at the Grand Cypress Golf Club in Orlando, FL. Shotgun tee time is at 12:30 p.m.
A welcome cocktail reception will be held from 6-7 p.m. with dinner and awards following.
On Friday, July 20, a vendor trade fair will be held at the hotel, Wyndham Grand Orlando Resort Hotel at Bonnet Creek, 14651 Chelonia Parkway Orlando, FL. Club president Russ Caron will provide opening remarks and event instructions at 8 a.m.
On Friday evening, a 65th Anniversary Dinner Celebration, called a “Blue Tie Event,” will be held. Ties will be supplied and are sponsored by Continental Tire. Men will be required to wear a blue tie (jackets and dress shirts are NOT required). Women and others are just asked to wear something blue.
ASA Collision Volunteer Leaders Discuss State Farm Pilot with Affiliated Associations
The Automotive Service Association's (ASA) volunteer leadership, staff and affiliated associations from around the United States continue to share information, comments and concerns regarding the State Farm pilot involving an electronic parts ordering application. The pilot is being conducted in Tucson, Ariz.; Grand Rapids, Mich.; Charlotte, N.C.; and Birmingham, Ala.
During a conference call held June 12, ASA's affiliated groups in the Tucson (ASA-Arizona) and Grand Rapids (ASA-Michigan) markets provided comments regarding the direct impact the pilot has had on its members. Other ASA-affiliated associations expressed concerns during the call, asked for clarifications and provided the ASA volunteer collision leadership and staff with recommendations for future actions as ASA continues to professionally advocate on behalf of collision repairers nationwide.

Tucson Auto Repair Sponsors Food, Clothes Drive
A food and clothing drive by a Tucson auto body company is set to end June 29. Caliber Collision also is matching $1 for every item donated. Non-perishable food and clothing is being accepted at all of the firm’s four Tucson-area locations.
The drive, coordinated with the Community Food Bank of Southern Arizona is similar to drives at most of the company’s 107 auto body repair centers in Arizona, Nevada, California, and Texas.
Suggested donations include non-perishable food in cans or plastic bottles, clothing and other necessities. No donation can be in glass, open containers, homemade or expired.
Caliber locations accepting donations are located at: 721 E. 12th St., 635 E. Vuelta Caminata Del Rio in Oro Valley, 2050 W. Price St. and 8120 E. Research Center.
