The Coordinating Committee For Automotive Repair has announced that its S/P2 training in Safety and Pollution Prevention will have a role in the upcoming SkillsUSA Championships. 

The SkillsUSA Championships are sponsored annually by SkillsUSA, a national non-profit organization serving more than 280,000 high school and college students, as well as professional members enrolled in training programs in trade, technical and skilled service occupations.

The championships, to be held June 21-22 in conjunction with the SkillsUSA National Leadership and Skills Conference in Kansas City, Missouri, are expected to draw more than 4,600 contestants in 80 separate events, including auto service technology.

"SkillsUSA is excited to add the S/P2 training process to the national championships in auto service technology," said Timothy W. Lawrence, executive director of SkillsUSA. "Safety and environmental issues are of prime concern in all SkillsUSA competitive events, and employing S/P2 in the national event will be of great benefit to our best future auto technicians."

During the 2006 championships, competitors in the automotive technology area will be tested in their knowledge of safety and environmental issues.

"This is another example of the strong industry support for SkillsUSA," said Robert Slovey, National ASEP/AYES manager, GM Service Operations, and a member of CCAR's Board of Directors. "Maintaining a knowledgeable and safe workforce will always be our number-one priority."

S/P2 was developed by CCAR for the automotive repair industry in keeping with U.S. EPA and OSHA standards, which require that shop personnel and students be trained at least annually on safety and environmental regulations. CCAR offers S/P2 free of charge to automotive training programs, and it is now being used in more than 2,400 schools across the country.
