Kathy Forrey, 52, a journalist in the collision repair industry for many years, died on August 20. She had battled Hepatitis C, a liver illness, for the past three years and was on a list for a liver transplant.
Forrey was a long time business friend to the collision industry, serving as the editor of Autobody News when Leta Amick owned the newspaper in the 1990s. After leaving Autobody News, she published an industry newsletter and was seen regularly at NACE and Collision Industry Conference (CIC) meetings.
"She was a member of every organization that makes the industry what it is today. Her thoughts, ideas, and guidance were a help to every project. It is hard to think "good-bye," said Jeff Hendler, CIC administrator.
Greg Gunter, owner, Greg's Auto Body, Whittier, California, spoke of his appreciation for all Forrey did to help the industry and Gunter personally.
"When I was president of CAA, Kathy was always there to lend a hand, especially with the chapter newsletters. When I worked with I-CAR, she was a tremendous help with scheduling and other tasks. We became good friends. She was a great person, always giving - she even created my web site for me!
"My 50th birthday happened to fall during an I-CAR international conference. Kathy brought a big cake so we could all celebrate together. It was such a memorable day."
Gunter pointed out that Kathy home-schooled her two sons, both of whom excelled in the classroom because of her attention at home. Her family was very important to her.
"Kathy never asked for help. She wanted to do everything herself. She was an important person to our industry. What can I say, we miss her," concluded Gunter
Forrey is survived by Bill, her husband of 22 years and sons Matthew, 20, and Andrew, 15.
