Akzo Nobel hosted about 200 industry leaders in early August at Mohegan Sun in Uncasville, Connecticut for the Akzo Nobel Sikkens Acoat selected semi-annual conference. This program, designed for premier businesses from both the U.S. and Canada, marked the 22nd gathering of its type for Akzo Nobel.
The event offered expert speakers covering a variety of topics including Minor Damage Repair, Creative Marketing, Insurer DRP expectations, as well as two classes on implementing advanced production techniques. Shop owner John Beckworth of Collision Works Inc. shared his experiences and the positive results gained from implementing concepts gleaned from the Theory of Constraints (TOC) or as he refers to it, “Tons of Cash.” The program also featured collision industry process expert Doug Kirk who spoke on the topic of “Demystifying Lean.” Kirk explained the evolution of “Lean” Manufacturing concepts as contrasted with creating a truly Process Centered Environment. Kirk is so popular that his program will be made available at NACE 2007 as the Friday morning panel talk sponsored by Akzo Nobel. The keynote speaker for this year’s program was Robert Swan, an internationally renowned polar explorer and environmentalist. Known as the “Ice Warrior,” Swan has won acclaim for his “Leadership on the Edge” program that helps to equip people to become inspired leaders that are able to deliver extraordinary results. Swan is the only person to have ever walked to both the South and North poles. Mike Sillay, services manager for Akzo Nobel Car Refinishes North America noted, “Pertinent and relevant content delivered in a fresh and motivating manner – that’s what the Sikkens Acoat selected program has always stood for. It’s why our members return every year and it’s what attracts others who are interested in improving their businesses.” |
