I-CAR adds training for Volvo and Cadillac E-mail
Wednesday, 01 March 2006

Approximately one year after announcing their training relationship, I-CAR and Volvo have completed initial development of the Volvo-specific training programs, which are part of the Volvo Body and Paint Service Center Certification Program. Available to the entire collision industry, the training programs help technicians to achieve quality repairs for owners of Volvo vehicles.

In addition to the eleven required I- CAR training programs and qualification test, the six Volvo-specific programs that I-CAR developed for the Volvo Body and Paint Service Center Certification Program include:

• Introduction to Volvo Collision Repair (VLV01)

• Volvo Non-Structural Repair (VLV02)

• Volvo Structural Repair (VLV03)

• Volvo Damage Analysis and Electro-mechanical Repair (VLV04)

• Collision Repair Overview for the Volvo XC90 (VLV05)

• Collision Repair Overview for the Volvo S40/V50 (VLV06)

I-CAR President and CEO Tom McGee said, "We are very proud of the relationship that has been developed between I-CAR and Volvo. The ability for I-CAR to develop and deliver these Volvo-specific training programs not only supports the Volvo Body and Paint Service Center Certification Program but provides the entire collision industry with access to Volvo-specific training. This access will provide young adults attending career and technical schools or colleges with an added credential when they seek employment in our industry.

"Just as importantly, it expands OEM training from the dealer to independent collision repair businesses, to insurers, and all other segments of the collision industry. With this relationship, the collision industry is better positioned to provide the Volvo vehicle owner with a complete and safe repair."

Volvo Service Training & Develop-ment Manager Ed Spirko said, "The training programs developed with I-CAR provide body technicians with important skills and knowledge. The completion of these six programs will enable body technicians to fix Volvos right the first time. Most importantly, the course material incorporates Volvo core values of quality and safety which will result in quality repairs and more satisfied Volvo owners."

Cadillac added to online library

I-CAR continues to add to its online training curriculum with the introduction of its latest program - the 2006 Cadillac DTS Front Lower Rail Replacement procedure. This program teaches how to install a complete lower front rail onto a laminated steel cowl, where typical GMA (MIG) welding procedures don't apply. In addition, this program provides a front lower rail sectioning procedure for when installation of a complete front rail is not necessary.

Topics covered in this program include: parts identification, adjacent parts removal and installation procedures, an introduction to laminated steel, front lower rail sectioning procedures, front lower rail complete rail replacement procedures, and proper application of corrosion protection.
