“I am truly honored to be the NACE chairman for 2007,” Amberson said.

 “NACE is the largest and most significant event for  the collision repair industry worldwide. It provides the opportunity for us to gather for training, networking and exposure to the latest product and equipment information. It offers a forum focused on self and business improvement, success and growth.”

Amberson is president of Lehman’s Garage in Bloomington, Minn., appointed in 2002. Dick Cossette, a strong ASA supporter and industry icon, was the company owner from 1969 until his death in 2002. He hired Amberson as general manager in 1999 and served as his boss, friend and mentor.

 Lehman’s Garage opened in 1917 and has expanded to six locations, which perform primarily collision repairs. Four locations have mechanical and glass departments as well.

 “NACE is the place we go to learn about the industry issues that affect us all and real-time solutions for dealing with them – resulting in positive advancements for everyone involved. In these turbulent times and our ever-changing business environment, NACE has never been more important. I am thrilled to be a part of it,” Amberson said.

A 36-year veteran of the industry, Amberson began his career in the dealership sector for 22 years before moving to an independent shop, primarily as the body shop manager.

With the exception of a two-year tour as a professional drag racer with Nitro funny cars – where he finished third in the International Hot Rod Association’s World Championship Points Race in 1989 – he has worked and supported the collision repair industry.

NACE 2007 will be held from Oct.  31 to Nov. 3, at the Mandalay Bay Convention Center in Las Vegas, Nev. The educational conference will run from Oct. 31 to Nov. 3 and the exposition will take place Nov. 1-3. The event will be held during Automotive Aftermarket Industry Week (AAIW) which also takes place in Las Vegas.
