Continuity and stability characterize new SCRS Board E-mail
Saturday, 01 July 2006

The Society of Collision Repair Specialists (SCRS) is pleased to announce its 2006-2007 Board of Directors. The new officers were sworn in at SCRS' annual Corporate Awards luncheon, which took place in April at the Doubletree Hotel in Portland, Oregon.

Tom Moreland, Strategic Sales and Industry Relations manager for Akzo Nobel (Georgia), was re-elected for a second term as chairman. Vice Chairman Gary Wano (Oklahoma), Treasurer Chad Sulkala (Massachusetts), Secretary Stacy Bartnik (Illinois), Director-at-Large Barry Dorn (Virginia) and Lou DiLisio (Illinois) Immediate Past Chairman will make up the remainder of the Executive Board.

In addition to the Executive Board, there are eight national directors. They are Farzam Afshar (California), Dan Bailey (Missouri), Toby Chess (California), Craig Griffin (Arkansas), Bob Smith (Missouri), March Taylor (Hawaii), Tim Waldron (Nevada) and Barry Dorn (Virginia).

The extension of continuity in its executive ranks has the Society optimistic that retaining key players will result in sustaining momentum toward existing goals. "The problems facing the industry today are complex, and in some instances, can't be resolved in a matter of months," explained Wano. "This really illustrates the importance of continuity and cohesiveness. The SCRS Board is fortunate in that there won't be a period of adjustment, and we can spend the majority of our time building upon the progress we've made addressing issues most pressing to our members."

"What makes this board special is the combination of experienced, battle-tested board members blended with those that are less experienced, yet energetic and very talented," said Griffin. "The result is leadership that has a thorough understanding of the industry, and can remain fresh in its approach. The mix of talents is sure to benefit our members and the industry as a whole."

In the upcoming year, SCRS plans to continue its role within the Collision Industry Conference (CIC) Database Task Force, working with the information providers to address macro-level issues. In addition, SCRS intends to strengthen their strong working relationships with key groups such as the Automotive Service Association (ASA) and the Alliance of Automotive Service Providers (AASP), as well as other industry segments with the premise of improving the collision repair industry.

"While we're focusing on stability and maturation, we haven't lost our sense of dynamics," Moreland states. "Roles and responsibilities within the board continue to evolve and change as the industry evolves and changes. The result is the development of effective leaders that can rise to new and unexpected challenges by understanding that 'Working Together Is the Most Important Work We Do'."
