Auto recyclers advance to a statewide program E-mail
Wednesday, 01 May 2002

The Recycled Parts Network, a group of automotive recycling (salvage) yards that started in Southern California has announced the expansion of its recycling yard network to northern California. RPN now has locations from Redding to San Diego, servicing all major markets in the state.

The organization added an additional 14 members to its network, giving RPN over 30 recyclers in California. Formed just one year ago by about a group of Southern California yards, the network's strategy of offering body shops and insurance claims adjusters multiple price quotes from just one faxed or e-mailed parts request proved very popular and prompted the state-wide expansion.

"With a statewide presence, RPN gives the claims industry enough horsepower to locate salvage parts quickly through yards that operate under a consistent set of business ideals," said Mike Clemente, Executive Director.

RPN is a co-operative of independent California auto & truck recyclers who retain their autonomy, but subscribe to a common set of business standards in such areas as delivery, warranties and representation. Through its network, the organization offers competitive solutions in automotive salvage parts distribution to collision repair professionals and insurers through either direct or non-direct repair networks.

Currently, the company's management team is comprised of five managers. RPN has developed programs which promote better business practices between recycled parts suppliers, collision repairers and insurers. "RPN has become a better student of the claims industry," said Clemente, "creating worthwhile solutions for faster, easier parts procurement in the claim process."

Gus Lagiss of Concord Auto Recycling, one of the company's newest members, saw the vision that RPN is creating. "The process in which RPN recyclers communicate through technology with collision repairers is an efficient tool that adds value in using recycled parts." Lagiss believes that giving shops and adjusters the ability to search over 30 inventories will increase recycled parts usage. "The locating process is more efficient for repairers and more effective for insurers," he said. "Buyers and sellers will be matched without the need for another entity in the middle of the transaction. This will improve communications and moderate costs."
